Media Empire by William-John-Holly Media Empire by William-John-Holly
A killer's name spread
While the nameless lie dead

Mistakes of society
Give them notoriety

Hear in the voices so shaky
Behind make-up so flaky
We multiply terror
Now we all want to be
The tragedy bearer

As the ground is layered in blood
Into our minds it started to flood
Bodies fall and land with a thud
Corpses harvested straight from the mud

Another batched killed
Prepared to be thrilled
We've made up our minds now
Nobody really cares who
But we only obsess on the how

Build a rogue's gallery
Build up a salary
Talk straight to the lens
Now everyone can see
Patch worked the murderous trends

Spiraling control
Selling your own soul
Making misunderstood heroes
Straight out of killers
Viewer numbers stacking the zeroes

You wonder who did this?
Turn on your T.V.
Gaze into the abyss
The blood fills a sea
Hear the leeches all hiss
Hey, catch the next spree
You just won't want to miss!
This, I guaranty.

Worship what you say you deplore
Keep track of every killer's score
But before you go and explore
The blood and gore you must adore
It is evil you underscore
All of the lives that you ignore
As their tiny skulls wash ashore
You are just a killer's whore

-I drew this one on cardstock printer paper with Prismacolor fine line markers using black, red, brown, and orange colors. I suppose I've always had a flair for dark imagery, but this one I think may be one of the darker topics I've based any of my art (that I've uploaded) on so far.

This is so Nostradamus. This is the one eyed beast.... 666. Media is the Anti christ. My generation was the first generation that TV became the baby sitter now its the Xbox 360. Beware of the Deceivers!

Great Work

Spooky....haha. Companies are using CULT PROPAGANDA to attract customers by giving a false sense of security and belonging. Playing on persons emotions and loneliness. People are getting Starbucks logos tattooed on their arms now. Companies openly say that they use cult techniques in what they call BRAND training. You are being methodically brain washed already. BRANDS are gods that we worship. There are no what if's anymore. Its already happening. I quit the commercial industry because of it. I helped brainwash you for many years. Commercial Agencies have R&D divisions that operate in complete secrecy. They are some of the most secured facilities in the world requiring retinal scans and palm scans.

We are a society of media illiterates. We can no longer discern truth from fiction. Nikes make us look cool and Pepsi makes us younger. MEDIA ILLITERACY is worst problem facing this next generation. WE can't read between the lines of bullshit to get at the truth. It is cancer to a society that depends and runs on CONSUMERISM. If people don't believe all this nonsense, the system crashes. We exist in a really badly shot science fiction movie right now with all the cheesy effects but everyone is sitting around and saying this is the greatest film ever made because the media device in their hand is telling them it is.

Your view is dead on but it not a project that is in development or even in production.....Its finished and in wide release and it is spreading across the rest of the world like a virus and will mostly like win alll the oscars.

George Orwell's 1984 was a great book but I never believed that we would ever be forced to put cameras and tracking devices in our homes. A future like that has no future. Conscious oppression has never lasted. Tyranny never lasts. WE WOULD HAVE TO DO IT VOLUNTARY AND WE HAVE. WE have cell phones that track and can LISTEN to our conversation. WE have web cams and security cameras every where. We have voluntarily given up our freedom in order to feel SECURE and SAFE. 1984 believe it or not is already here and has been here for a long long time. WE are a bunch of monkeys who love shiny buttons..... We are f**kin sheep. WE ARE ALREADY UNDER CONTROL.....MEDIA WHORES...MEDIA JUNKIES.

Thanks for the drawing. Its got me all amped up and pissed off...... I will get off the soap box now. HAHA. You've got an awesome brain dude. Thank you.

haha...... evil stuff. Your right though on how dangerous this is. I used to see results from these groups when they would perform "tests" in the guise of market surveys were they would watch how people react to certain stimuli presented to them in commercial campaigns. They would hide subliminal bits and stuff to see if people would catch it sub consciously and what is scary is that they did. They would either write about in responses or bring it up in discussion.

Bush got in trouble for it when he ran anti Gore ads with quick clips of rats. His father did it too but all that stuff is grade school compared to what they are doing now. Its really creepy.

just from the image before I read the title or the poem the phrase "the media thrives on human blood" ran through my head.

Totally, I'm not sure the human race in general terms was ever quite ready for mass media.

It certainly seems that way. The mass media is like any nebulous and abstract concept we've invented in that the people involved with it think only of the business and the craft of it but deny any horrific implications. The mass media will attack video games and movies for immersing us in too much simulated violence while news networks immerse us in real and much more horrifying violence in an almost fetishistic manner, putting the killers onto a pedestal as the new romantic mystery we must all rotate our minds around trying to understand. It says a lot of very disturbing things about the way society reacts to horrible events now.

There certainly is influential power behind it all. Also depending on how much credibility each individual perceives in the source. Sadly that seems to be a lot more than ever is actually earned. Almost automatic even, an implicit trust in authority among many of us.

On the other end it's kind of damning of our species as a whole. Journalism was tried, but it eroded quite easily, and turned into what we see today as infotainment and voyeuristic shows. The pretense of censorship, but then showing some of the most violent stuff they can manage, because it grabs attention. As well as "News" shows focused on a steady drip of fear, and the hypocrisy you pointed out. Facilitating our division even more. Allowing power and influence to become more powerful and more influential.

Concentrating these things further into more authoritarian structures, but having similarly flawed human beings appointed to these roles. Positions only the most power mad would relish in having. Roles that in reality probably have too much responsibility for even the most saintly human to ever handle.

And for me, I can never point my finger on any of it as the central cause, because it seems like a loop. One thing causes the other. They feed on each other. People actually do like this brand of media, and the media uses it's influence to keep people in these lower states of being misinformed and happily ignorant. As well as being fixated on very crude and base things that appeal to the lower minds of our animalistic nature. One thing seems to lead to more of the other. Some mad auto-catalytic process.

One big race to the bottom. XD A downward spiral, like when a you open a drain. Swirl swirl swirl, my what an exhilarating ride... while it lasts.

We certainly need a lot more skepticism among us, and I don't see that happening anytime in the near or distant future. Maybe, in a damning way, democracy is a pipe dream for our species. Some of us make strides to aspire to lead ourselves, but many more relish in being alleviated of their responsibilities, instead to put faith into an authority.

Making everything quite ripe for what media does. These things have evolved around each other. Like how fruits become sweeter and more attractive to the animals that ate them and transmitted their seeds the most effectively. A selection process.

I kind of wonder about what would responsible reporting look like, and what would be the things people should be tuning into. Those moral things we would agree on, I think are just that. Things we would like to see when we tuned in. Things that represented our perspectives. What I think about most in that line of thinking is that it may be irrelevant if they even did the responsible thing. Not for everyone of course, but for most people who subscribe to the thinking that is projected through mass media. The unquestioning sort. They're likely inconsequential people.

They are and they aren't. They do things in such a large magnitude it matters, or it could matter in a very big and meaningful way. The media and how it's been hijacked is mainly the rich and powerful trying to tap into that mechanism in order to move their agendas. But where I think the media recipient ultimately don't make a difference, is in the nature of this kind of thinking, and ultimately their relative inaction where things really matter. I'm not entirely convinced they would ever be persuaded off the comfort of their arm chairs to ever do anything differently. It's why they've conformed to begin with. They want to hear and believe things that justify their inertia, or lack of real moral responsibility.

They can certainly make a grumpy noise, and vote for a particular pre-selected politician that's been provided for their voting, but I don't think they'll ever do anything that really resembles democracy. It's all bumper stickers and flag waving for them.

Luckily, it seems they're hardly ever needed to move things in a better direction. Most of our great strides in human progress have been done by engaged minorities. People who felt strongly and had honest convictions about human rights and social progress. Not only were they willing to miss out on watching American Idol ^_^, but they were also willing to risk bodily harm and death.

So I don't know exactly how strongly I feel about indicting the media. It kind of seems like a symptom to me. A sickness or a flaw in the people. One that was discovered and known by many, and simply exploited routinely. Media just being an amplifier, a new tool in the toolkit.
